Holy Tongue – Coca (ft. Dali De Saint Paul)
Holy Tongue is a trio: Valentina Magaletti, Susumu Mukai, and Al Wootton. They built “Coca” out of improvisations recorded in the Swiss Alps and London, working from vintage drum machines and pure instinct. Dali de Saint Paul’s vocals show up raw and unpolished, one of two features she contributes to the record, and her presence pulls the track somewhere closer to ritual than song.
The result sits somewhere between dub, ritual percussion, and the kind of vast, Popol Vuh-style landscape that doesn’t resolve so much as keep moving. It follows the trio’s debut Deliverance and Spiritual Warfare and a prior collaboration with dub pioneer Shackleton, and it’s out October 9 on AD 93, though the source material doesn’t give the record a title yet.
